International Auto Center Body Shop repairs and replaces bumpers in Santa Clara. We inspect the cover, the reinforcement behind it and the mounting points, then tell you whether repair or replacement is the better value. Estimates are free and all insurance is accepted.
What is behind the bumper cover
The painted cover you see is plastic. Behind it sits an energy absorber, often foam, and a metal or composite reinforcement bar bolted to the frame. After an impact, the cover can look fine while the foam is crushed and the bar is bent. That is why we check behind the cover before we say a bumper is fine.
Repair or replace
Scrapes, small cracks and scuffs can usually be repaired and repainted. Large cracks, missing tabs, and torn mounting points often make replacement the better choice because the repair would not hold. Cost matters too. When labor for a repair approaches the price of a new cover and paint, replacement wins.
Why bumper paint takes care
A new bumper cover arrives primed, not painted. It has to be refinished in your car's color, and the color has to match the fenders and hood next to it. Plastic needs flexible paint, and the finish must be baked or cured so it does not crack the first time the cover flexes. We blend into adjacent panels when the match needs it.
Sensors, cameras and tow hooks
Many bumpers now carry parking sensors, radar units, cameras or tow-hook covers. Those parts must be removed, protected and refitted, and some may need to be tested after the repair. We tell you at the estimate which of those parts your car has and what they add to the job.
Insurance or out of pocket
Bumper damage is the most common small claim, and it is also the one where the estimate can land under the deductible. Get the number first. If you file, we work with all insurance companies.
